Dear friends,
I hope you are safe, healthy, and making the most out of this time for inner growth and rest and re-thinking how we put into practice what we want to happen for the rest of our lives. And I’m praying for all of us, as we are one big us, so clear now, how our smallest habits affect everyone and our planet.
I wrote a blog about my feelings during this time, this state of emergence. Read it on my website here: https://sophiebhawkins.com/state-of-emergence/
We lost two incredible musicians this week. One you may not have heard of before as that’s the way it goes with band members sometimes… my friend and drummer Dave Burns and the amazing Bill Withers.
I wrote a memorial to my friend Dave. You can read it here: https://sophiebhawkins.com/our-beloved-friend-dave-burns/
And, I’ve recently posted a cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” to my YouTube channel. Check it out and be sure to subscribe so you’re notified when I post new videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG_XhgekFvI
And, today is the birthday of Lady Day, the one and only Billie Holiday, one of my first and most profound influences. “God Bless the Child” is so true, truer than ever, so I sat down at my keyboard to make an impromtu version of her inimitable classic. It’s going out on my social channels today but I wanted to give my email subscribers a first look. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/Fu1Nyv6-wkY
Finally, while we’re home keeping ourselves and others safe, I’ve been working on a few long range projects, but am also planning to keep posting more live performance videos on YouTube and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I’m thinking of calling this series of posts #TuesdayTune. More information to come but in the meantime, be certain to follow my social channels so you don’t miss anything.
